8 Knitting Ideas for 2018

Do you ever have so many knitting ideas that it's hard to decide what project to start next? Us too. In honor of New Year's we decided to collect our favorite ideas for 2018 knitting and put them all in one place. We hope that this list helps you pick your next knitting project...or gets you excited to see what we plan on making and releasing this upcoming year.

1. CAPES.

Even as big fans of boxy shapes, we have to say, it's nice to welcome in a softer silhouette. Knitting a cape is a great way to start practicing simple increases. We'll always have a soft spot in our heart for one-size-fits-most knitting projects.

2. TWEED

As we embrace more unisex and menswear styles for women, so we bring in some classic fabrics. Tweed can be added to your knit projects as a stitch pattern or with yarn type. We recommend keeping it contemporary by loosening your gauge and the fit of the garment.

3. VERTICAL STRIPES.

Simple but bold, vertical stripes are both striking and flattering. Knitting sideways is a great way to make vertical stripes an easy knit.

 4. ASYMMETRIC SWEATERS.

If you're going to knit something by hand, we figure it should be pretty cool and unique. An asymmetric sweater sure fits that bill. Plus, the diagonal break looks good on all body types.

5. STATEMENT SLEEVES.

With large sleeves still in style, it's the perfect opportunity to make a knitting statement on your sleeves. We love this organic stripe example, we've also seen detailed fair isle, cabling, and flower color work.

6. METALLIC YARN.

Add some sparkle to your yarn stash with metallic yarn. We love using metallic yarn as an accent held double (like in our Astrology Cowl), in a loose gauge stockinette, or as cuffs to a hat or garment. Playing with our Goldrush selection never gets boring!

7. PUT A PATCH ON IT.

We're all about the nod to our 90s nostalgia with patches. Such a fun way to personalize your knit piece.

8. THE BIGGER THE BETTER.

Not sure when we'll ever get over this phase, but as always with knitwear: the bigger the better. We adore the feeling of swimming in yarn and this year we're going to just keep swimming. 🐠
